Welcome to my Reflections!

Thanks for joining me! I am Alexander Ortiz Velez, a 16 year old Puerto Rican currently living in the state of Florida, US. I am a music composer who firmly believes in the correlation between literature and music as a powerful method of conveying a message. Here I will keep all my written works (mostly free-verse poetry and text I didn’t use in my music); I hope you enjoy it.

Let me give you a glimpse of who I am and my ideology:

Me playing a Steinway Piano. Classical music is my way to express what I feel towards different aspects of life. Everyone has something that brings them joy. I hope many use that as a means to spread joy to others.
Claude Debussy, probably my biggest inspirational character. His search for colors in music is phenomenal, and gives meaning to many, if not all of his works.
Works of art make rules; rules do not make works of art. Claude Debussy, probably my biggest inspiration.”
Juan Morel Campos’ music demonstrate the beauty of Puerto Rico’s (and the Caribbean’s) florid nature. It’s my dream to preserve the style of danza and make it a well known style in classical repertoire.
Cabo Rojo is my hometown. After so much pain the island of Puerto Rico has gone through, it’s time to demonstrate the good of us around the globe. Show who we are, and slowly, but progressively put our nation’s name in high standard…
… and what a better way to raise our name than through what we are good at. Colors, rhythm, thoughts, and soul are some of the things we can offer. It can be Literature, Art, Music, Cuisine, Dance, etc. Even though we are small, we have much to offer. I invite everyone to come and enjoy Puerto Rican art; I hope we can help it grow in the future.

Still, while being proud of my culture, I believe that every culture has great things to offer, and that every culture it’s beautiful in it’s own way. I wish to one day get more familiar with more cultures, and incorporate cultural knowledge in my music…

Thank you for joining my blog,

Alex
